Itinerary

The Experience

Travel to the edge of Tasmania's World Heritage-listed Southwest National Park past spectacular craggy mountain ranges, buttongrass plains and ancient forests.

We take a closer look at what lies beneath some of the oldest, gnarliest, and tallest trees as we discover the plants and fungi of the ancient rainforest lineages and countless animal species. The journey is half the fun with panoramic views of the coastline, harbour, or mountains as we travel to the forested corners of this amazing island.

Walk through the Giant Forest to the densely forested banks of the Styx River or at Mount Field National Park and stop and marvel at the largest and oldest giant gum trees. Visit the famous Tall Trees Walk or the Tolkien Track with its renowned trees – Gandalf's Staff and Fangorn.

Discover the history of our fascinating forests and their possible future as the expert botanist shares his knowledge. He will bring all the equipment which may include a laser rangefinder, tape measure and spherical camera.

Spot giant tree species from around the world including redwoods, sequoia, cedar and more.

If conditions and time permit, we can visit the entrance to the spectacular subterranean river of Junee Cave. Junee Cave is part of a large cave system stretching through 295 caves which includes the deepest cave in Australia.

Breathe the fresh Tasmanian mountain air as you walk under giant tree ferns to the gushing Russell Falls – the most photographed waterfall in Tasmania. You'll understand why when you see it.

View the 'skyscrapers' of Andromeda Grove, the tallest grove of flowering plants anywhere on earth.
